This week, I muse on games, streaming, and people.
Yesterday, Warhammer 40k: Darktide dropped a new class and map, Helldivers 2 launched a new warbond, and ARC Raiders is getting snow maps and a new Raider Deck sometime this month. When it rains, it pours. And we are eating GOOD, my friends.
I hope everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving had a wonderful holiday. I had a fantastic time with family — my stepson and parents came to town. We ate, drank, and were merry, feasting on everything from the Lord of the Rings trilogy to The Batman, The Penguin, and the excellent Netflix miniseries Death by Lightning. The latter chronicles the assassination of our 20th President, James Garfield, and it absolutely hooked me. The writing, acting, and visuals were all top-notch. And the series drove me down a rabbit hole about Garfield himself and the post-Civil War era he lived in.
Digging into all that, and the corruption Garfield dealt with, reminded me that even though some things may change, many things stay the same. People are people regardless of the time: flawed, messy, wonderful beings. Some are driven by greed and will do anything to feed that endless hunger. I think most people are genuinely good — and a brave few will stand up for themselves and others when the moment calls for it.
As George Lucas once said about the structure of Star Wars, “It’s like poetry, it rhymes.” History works the same way. Human behavior is cyclical and often repeats.
That’s the rant for now, folks. I might’ve gone off the rails, but I felt inspired. I hope you're enjoying all these kick ass games.
